Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is proud of the over 4,000 graduates who have walked these halls since 1885. Some of our alumni like it so much, they return as Faculty and Staff members.

Many of our alumni are now parents, grandparents and great grandparents of children enrolled at the school. They give very generously of their time, talent and treasure to “dear old Mount Carmel”.

We are always very pleased to see our alumni enjoying themselves or volunteering at the many events held during the year, including Grandparents Day, Holiday Home Tour, the Auction and the Festival.

Alumni Don Nava '67 - son Daniel Nava MLB Debut!

With one swing of the bat everything changed!

Our son Daniel played in his first major league baseball game last Saturday afternoon for the Boston Red Sox. With my wife Becky and I in the stands praying our guts out, God did what only God can do and smiled on our 27-year-old rookie. On his very first pitch Daniel hit a 400-foot Grand Slam Home Run into the right-center bullpen at Fenway Park.

As I write this from my Boston hotel room, my eyes are once again welling up with tears, thinking about what Jesus did for our son and family. On Saturday, “Daniel Nava” was the #1 search on Google; and the blogs, Facebook, and other social media have been going crazy over his story.

But the real story is Daniel’s unwavering love for God, and his commitment to living a life of excellence. What he has been through, especially the past three years, has been nothing short of a wilderness experience. But in that wilderness, the Holy Spirit pruned him, molded him and prepared him for what was ahead.

After this historical game, Becky and I stood by our seats not just as proud parents because of what Daniel accomplished, but above and beyond, as grateful parents to the Lord because He graciously taught us how to raise our children with biblical principles of excellence, integrity and trust.

Daniel really blessed us after the game when he was interviewed by Fox Sports on national TV, which was broadcast live throughout Fenway, when he acknowledged that “Without God I would have never gotten to this place.”

Lord, we are so grateful for your blessings upon our son. May your name forever be lifted up and glorified by Daniel’s life, and may we all learn to persevere and believe that ALL things are possible with you. Amen.

School Song circa 1950

written by Fr. Cornelius Kennedy

In a fertile valley nestling, ‘neath the great sequoia shade, there’s a treasure house of knowledge, where character is made.

It is there we love to linger, where all things are done well, and we vow our true allegiance to our school, Mount Carmel.

Then to Carmel, dear Mount Carmel, we’ll be steadfast, loyal, true. We’ll uphold her stainless honor, and we’ll add new glory too. For the best that there is in us. We will do that men may tell.

That we love our God and country, and that we’re true to dear Carmel.
